The Red Front Door

The Red Front Door by Patsy Overton
Do you like a red front door?  As the color consultant for SuperiorPRO Painting, I’m often asked to help our customers select front door colors.  Although there are a few exceptions, more often than not the request is for red.  In this example, I’ll be showing you photos of our Production Manager’s (Bethany’s) new home.  She didn’t need my help at all with color selection, as she wanted to use the same red she had on her previous front door — Sherwin William’s Heartthrob #6866.  Here is a shot of Bethany’s home before the door was painted:

Okay, so that’s not a great shot of the front door, but you get the idea.  Apparently, it was a rainy day.  But take a look at the freshly painted door:

Isn’t that beautiful??!!!  This illustrates perfectly how putting a warm, inviting color on your front door can make the entrance to your home so welcoming.  There are actually a number of shades of red that would work well with her exterior color palette, but I don’t think I could have found one that would have worked any better.  Great job, Bethany!
But she didn’t stop there.  Here is an interior shot of the same door:

What you see illustrated here is what most of us do, myself included.  We typically paint the interior side of the front door to match the trim.  This is what it looked like when she and her husband moved into their new home.  But things have changed.

I absolutely love that Bethany used the same red, Sherwin-Williams Heartthrob #6866 on the inside as well as the outside.  The color completely transforms her entrance space.  Yesterday I was in a home where all the interior doors were painted black, which was a very striking look; but there is something about that splash of red in the foyer that brings the space to life.  If you would like additional ideas about front door colors, please take a look at our Pinterest board on Colorful Front Doors.
Thank you to Bethany for letting me use the pictures of her home in this blog post, as they are great visual illustrations of how color can transform a space.  Job well done!
